I'm collecting pictures of my for my insatiable appetite for ... uhh... narcissism? Oh well. If any of you find more pics.

Everything seems to be quiet lately. I totally lost my tempo in poetry and making Romantically Apocalyptic translations and (ineffectively) replaced by papier-mache mask making. I hadn't even been able to update my blog which I intended to post on at least once a month.

I still plan on writing fanfics though; one fanfic will be of Touhou and the other will be of FFTA2. For the Touhou fanfic, I still hadn't made a decent story flow but I sure have made a rough concept that made my friend LOL. For the FFTA2 fanfic, I'm currently replaying the game to watch the scene I'll base the story from (yeah. That game has a big replay value for me).

Since I just made the LOL mask, I wouldn't be making another mask any time soon.

Hmmm... what else... I dunno.

So far, I made six masks based on Internet memes (not counting Epic Fail guy). There's Trollface, Rageface, Forever Alone, Y U NO, Me Gusta and LOL. And now I'd like to write something about them to clear things up.

Why papier mache? Because it's cheap and easy to work with. Plus, it's somewhat nature-friendly since I'm using paper that would've been sent to the landfills. I have a lot of used paper here: handouts, test papers, notebooks, flyers, newspapers, cereal boxes, et cetera. For me, it'd be a waste to throw them away. Plus, since the memes are originally drawn mainly in black and white using MS Paint, I thought that papier mache would be an analogous medium. Both are plain, simple-looking and without any complicated procedures. Though it may be the case that one could create something on par with more advanced media with expert hands, the simplicity of a drawing or papier mache sculpture can be outstanding at times. I'd like to use advanced materials in the future, though.

What adhesive do I use? Starch aka amylum. In the Philippines, we call it gawgaw or almirol. I boil it and it becomes paste once it cools. When the paste dries and hardens, the layers of paper become as hard as wood. I hurt my knuckles when I punch my masks. Seriously. My Hollow and Guy Fawkes masks were too soft because there wasn't enough starch in the mixture so when I put more starch when I made Trollface, I was pretty amazed at the stiffness of the mask.

Do I use molds? Some have suggested that I use molds so that the masks can easily fit the face and I say no. Why? To me, these masks are more like wearable sculptures. Molding them onto a face mold would remove the essence of the character and it would look different from the original meme. I don't think the memes are created to depict actual human faces (that'd be creepy); they are too distorted to fit into a mold. The Hollow and Guy Fawkes masks are actual masks... the Meme masks aren't. So yeah, I sacrifice 'wearability' for 'essence'.

What will I do next? Disappoint and I Lied some of the memes I intend to do next. But there are also non-meme masks I intend to make like No Face and Jigsaw. I might even redo Guy Fawkes. I hang my finished masks on a a wall in my room and I intend to fill that wall... or even fill the room.

Okay. To give everyone a "heads up", this journal isn't as serious as my previous one. [link]

I've seen some ad banners of Red Cross over the Internet where Touhou protagonist Reimu Hakurei has her hands clasped and eyes closed in prayer. She wears red and white, the similar colors of the Red Cross emblem. She is also a miko (shrine maiden) which is also a fitting character for a well-wisher. On the banner is the word "Donate", giving viewers a sense of urgency, at least for those who knew what happened in Japan.

The thing is... I don't think Reimu is a fitting character for the propaganda. A person who has little to no idea as to what Touhou is might associate her with either "lawful good" or "neutral good" alignments (see [link] ) but the story presents her as someone who is more on keeping the order in her domain, one way or the other, casting her into "lawful neutral". In some cases, she is depicted as a plunderer (Touhou 7 and 13), or a money-monger (fanmade stuff), casting her more into the "evil" column and further deviating her from the pious benevolent character that Red Cross ought to be.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that Reimu's true personality is anything like Red Cross. I know this doesn't affect anything but... I'm pretty sure any Touhou fan would have noticed this already and had one of their eyebrows raised.

Japan has suffered a lot last March 11th due to the massive earthquake/tsunami. The interwebs was then suddenly flooded with people spreading the news and raising awareness about the tragedy. Pick a social network or bulletin board or forum. Even DeviantArt has its fair share of stuff related to the tragedy.

But there's one commonplace statement I kept on seeing: "Let's pray for Japan", "Pray for the victims", "My prayers go with them", and so on.

If praying was so important, what good does it actually do? Nothing. It doesn't summon magical stretchers; it doesn't magically reverse the damage, it doesn't fucking resurrect anyone who died. Nada. Non. Nein. Zero. Zilch. If it does something, what does it do? It gives the praying person a false sense of action, bathing people in the pretense that they're doing something where in fact, all they're doing is close their eyes, put their hands together, and sit/kneel/genuflect like some pious servant waiting for a doggybone.

Face it guys. Prayer does nothing bad but it doesn't do anything good either, unless you count the self-gratification you get for wishing someone good luck something good. Hell. Just masturbate. Pretty much the same effect. If your prayers can reach an existing god, try asking him to prevent natural disasters before they happen.

I can't do anything. Nothing. I can't go to Japan and help the victims. I can't donate whatever.  Hey. At least I admit my incompetence rather than live in pretense. I'm no hypocrite.

I sincerely wish I could've helped.

Rio - Rainbow Gate - This isn't even about gambling. I may like ecchi but this is just senseless. I expected the ecchi but I didn't expect it to be lacking in every other aspect. Verdict: FAIL

Infinite Stratos - Harem with badass mecha and (as I'd like to assume) a lead guy with potential for badass. Sure, he may be dorky like a regular male anime character but heck. Anyone piloting a badass mech has the badassery carried over. Bland whole, my ass. What matters is that it's entertaining and I am very much entertained. Verdict: PASS

Gosick - Sure. The lead girl is cute and all but the story is meh. I don't feel that there is any real conflict in the story. No driving force. They're just involving themselves in mysteries for the heck of it. Add a sprinkle of character backgrounds and that's your soup. Verdict: FAIL

Beelzebub - There are some funny parts but Beel is rather annoying in the anime (because I can now actually hear him crying). What I'm really looking forward to are the fight against Toujou and moments with Aoi (Hilda is nice but I kinda like Aoi better). But hey. It's a pretty funny anime. And Kamina = Oga! Verdict: PASS

Wolverine - Pretty much the oddball of all the anime for this season for reasons I needn't elaborate on. And it's my season's favorite... also for reasons I needn't elaborate on. Verdict: TOP PICK

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - I've never been happy to be proven wrong TWICE before. I established two mindsets prior to watching this. First is that Shaft is crap and does nothing but boring slideshow-ish retarded anime for the past few years (I did like Maria Holic though). Second is that the mahou shoujo genre is dead after Card Captor Sakura ended. Both of these were shattered after watching ep 1. It seems Shaft CAN be decent after all. Verdict: PASS

Kore wa Zombie desu ka? - I like slice-of-life zombie stories (Sankarea). I also like stories of mahou "shoujo" trap comedy (Brocken Blood). But mixed? Hell no. Yogurt is delicious; bacon is delicious; but ever tried eating Bacon Yogurt? Same with this anime. As I'd like to put it, the creator traded sanity for originality. Verdict: FAIL

Yumekui Merry - George Nakata leads an army of cats to chase you. Weird story and weak impact, maybe except for the apparent navel fetish. Sure, there's a fight scene but that's all. Really... I find it boring. Verdict: FAIL

Dragon Crisis - First, I'd like to point out the irony that the mysterious girl who's being transported by some organization inside a container and then awakens and has supernatural powers ISN'T the character voiced by Yukana (For those who didn't get it, Eriko (the collector of Precious) = Yukana = CC). And yeah! I kinda missed Rie Kugimiya's voice so it's kinda refreshing to hear it again. Ehem... Back to the anime. It's not the best but it's not the worst either. The story is kinda bland and doesn't have any real redeeming factors.Verdict: IFFY

Fractale - Verdict: PENDING

Level E - Verdict: PENDING

Wandering Son - Verdict: PENDING

Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne - Verdict: PENDING

I don't watch sequels of series I didn't watch so Kimi ni Todoke 2 isn't judged. Also, Freezing gets the "Anime I don't give a damn about" spot in my list. I won't watch those. Oh. Kimi ni Todoke 1 got the "Anime I don't give a damn about" spot the season it aired... so yeah... Sorry KnT fans.

Here's a list of manga (mangas for those who prefer their plurals strictly with 's') I'm following / have finished. Italicized titles are those with an anime/ OVA/ drama/ movie adaptation or has something to do with that. I didn't include a lot of one-shots in this list (because most aren't really notable).

NOTE: I don't enjoy some of the manga in the list. I read them due to force of habit or because I have nothing better to do.

Brought up during a recent drinking session... I had almost forgotten about it if it hadn't been brought up.

What's more awkward than having your whole extended family attend your birthday party which was originally intended for just your friends? The answer: Having all your high school teachers from all your subjects attend the party.

It was supposed to be a normal birthday with just my classmates. One of my smoker friends couldn't even have the liberty of getting a light. I wanted to melt. I only showed up at the dinner table after all the teachers had left.

Then it came to my knowledge that my mom invited them. It's the worst "punishment" I had received in my life, worse than being lashed by a leather belt.

Worst. Birthday. Ever. It made me regret having been born.

I hate kleptomaniac, bipolar, hypocritical, arrogant, self-important, delusional, ex-atheist, superficial, psychopathic, judgmental, narcissist, egotist, downright malevolent sisters.

Imagine...

In a house, the mother is cooking in the kitchen, the older sister is studying medicine, the little sister is watching TV, and the brother is... sleeping. The mother got burned by accident and needs first aid. Obviously, despite being a nurse, she couldn't have applied first aid on herself and needs assistance.

Now here's the problem. Choose which one of her children who would be the best option to aid her: older sister, brother, or younger sister. Naturally, the best option would be the older sister. Heck, she studies medicine and doctors (or would-be doctors) should readily assist anyone injured.

But that's not what happened.

The older sister had to wake up the sleeping brother and bug the other sister. She yelled at the brother with a commanding voice and ordered him around like some slave... when she could've done a lot better herself.

That happened years ago and I'm still bitter about it.

Some doctor... What's more of a waste? A good-for-nothing doctor who's practically a money-sink for her cosmetics, fashion, and tuition and annoys 3/4 of her family or a bum who's eager to spend his allowance as minimal as possible to the point of skipping two whole meals a day and did the responsibility of paying the bills and realty?

If I'm the father of this family, I'd stop siding with that wretched daughter completely and do something about the rest of the family. But of course, if I'm fucking some other woman other than my wife, I wouldn't give a damn about my family... which I wouldn't.

"If you hit girls, you're gay."

Uhh... I honestly don't see any correlation between sexual orientation and the way you treat the OPPOSITE sex. Last time I checked, homosexuality is based on your actions toward the members of the SAME sex (speech patterns and mannerisms come as a side).

Another thing, name all the male video game characters in fighting games with girls in them. By the logic of the statement above, they're automatically homosexual. WUT. I even remember an instance back when I was playing Tekken 3: an uneducated female from some mountain where fighting games don't exist was watching me play Hwoarang versus Nina. She was like "Oh he will definitely not hit a girl. That's bad." until I sent Nina flying with a combo. She was aghast.

Of course, it's bad. It's bad to hit ANYONE, with some exceptions of course. Saying that it's bad to hit girls is like saying that a wooden stake to the heart will kill vampires. Yes, wooden stakes are deadly but heck! Even humans will die if you plunge a stake to their chest! I won't hit a girl... but that's just because I hit people when I want to and that instance doesn't occur pretty often. I would hit anyone regardless of their sexual organ and that wouldn't make me like other men.

I can't believe that people of this day and age would still believe that adage. It's the 21st century, for crying out loud. Move on, people!

On a related note, I remember the time when my dad took me on a tour of his workplace. We came across a female electrician working on some wires. My dad told me "You see that? She's a woman and she's doing that job." In my mind, I was "So? What does being a woman got to do with anything? What do you expect her to do? Go to the kitchen and make you a sandwich?"

Sheesh.

Get ready for a blend of subjective and objective ratings.

Ookami-san to Shichinin to Nakamatachi - I'm kinda growing sick of this show, especially its excess narration. It's pretty decent but it's a bit in the danger zone. Rating: 3.5/10 (previously 5/10)

Amagami SS - A wholesome slice-of-life shounen romance. Kaoru arc is best arc. Rating: 9/10 (previously 8/10)

Mitsudomoe - I'm rather getting tired of the "misunderstanding" type of humor. Still funny but I'm not laughing anymore. Rating: 5/10 (previously 9/10)

Highschool of the Dead - Awesome is awesome. I don't get why people complain a lot about the ecchi though. For me, the gore and action easily overpowers it. Rating: OVER 9000 (no change in rating)

Nurarihyon no Mago - I want fight scenes, NOW! Rating: 6.5/10 (no change in rating)

Strike Witches 2 - Dropped. Not worth my time. Rating: 0/10 (previously 2/10)

Shiki - Dropped. Even though I tried to hold on. Rating: 0/10 (previously 3/10)

Densetsu no Yusha no Densetsu - Picked up. I heard it's getting good and ONLY the 1st episode is crap. Plus, I'm missing on some epic Jun Fukuyama voice. (Jun's voice in Working isn't Lelouch enough but his role in this anime SURE IS LELOUCH.) Pending rating.

Epic season is still epic (because of HotD). I've seen the upcoming Winter roster and didn't see anything potentially interesting.

Watch out for FALL. My best bets are Bakuman, Star Driver, and The World God Only Knows. Maybe Beelzebub OVA too.

Listed in the order I watched them.

Ookami-san to Shichinin to Nakamatachi - I originally watched it for the Taiga-ripoff and I plan on ditching the anime if it doesn't turn out to be good. The first episode really caught me in so I scrapped the plan. T'was fun to watch. Verdict: PASS

Amagami SS - There are certain standards that I want to see whenever I decide to watch a harem anime. It should have some sort of unique aspect, something that doesn't make it generic. Good thing Amagami met this. The guy is not an ass and the girls don't have feelings for him beforehand unconditionally. Though, I'm kinda disappointed by the lack of Nanasaki Ai. Verdict: PASS

Shukufuku no Campanella - The thing I said about harem anime earlier - this one takes the cake for the opposite. And the thing that weirds me out more than anything: one of the girls is named Salsa Tortilla. Generally, the anime is boring. No wonder it's the least anticipated anime for Summer. Verdict: FAIL

Mitsudomoe - At first, I was "What's this? A lolicon show?". But then, it turned out to be hilarious. I can also relate to the teacher a lot (I had some experience teaching grade-schoolers and this show reminded me of that). Ugh! Honestly, I didn't expect this show to make me laugh IRL. Verdict: PASS

Seitokai Yakuindomo - Uhh... right. Seitokai no Ichizon with somewhat green jokes. The humor in this one pales compared to the humor in Mitsudomoe. Verdict: FAIL

Highschool of the Dead - I need not say anything about this anime. Verdict: WIN

Occult Academy - I dunno. I can't get the feel of this anime for some reason. This might get good for all I know but... Verdict: FAIL

Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu - Same with Occult Academy. Though, I'll consider re-watching this if it turns out to be good. Verdict: FAIL

Nurarihyon no Mago - I really don't get why this one is underrated - It's practically unheard-of in the English-speaking community. Compared to the manga, the anime is too calm. It needs more action. It's WSJ's Top 4* fer chrissakes. I'm still looking forward to it being redeemed in the later eps. Animation is cool, though. Verdict: PASS

* Considering that Shounen Jump's Top 3 is perpetually unmovable, Top 4 is the highest rank a WSJ manga can attain.

Strike Witches 2 - AIC did a good job with this one. I think it did even better than Gonzo. I don't know why I'm watching this show. Pantsu? No. Big guns? Not really. WW2 fighter planes? Not even close. Well, at least it has more sense than K-on. Verdict: PASS

Shiki - I dunno. I don't really like the drawing style. But the story is kinda interesting. I'll hang on to this but I'll drop it once it gets boring. Verdict: PASS

Asobi ni Iku yo - I seriously can't pinpoint any good or bad qualities. Maybe my mind was still busy processing. Oh well. Verdict: FAIL

Cat Shit One - Well, I do appreciate action and cuteness. This is kinda like a Black Velvet cocktail. But then again, does this still count as anime? Verdict: PASS

Black Rock Shooter -  I waited one year... FOR THIS? COME ON! I don't even want to go in on the details! Verdict: FAIL

Bum, NEET, hikikomori, vagrant, etc. It has many names and many versions. People who cling dearly to society avoid this life. The "normals" go and study in school or college, seek training or employment and get what they call a "life". As with almost everything in this universe, it is but a choice and with all choices, I simply prefer "the road less taken".

I've been a "bum" for half a year already. I've been persecuted and discriminated because of my lifestyle - typical, very typical. But why did I choose this life? This is what defines me. I do make an effort to find a job, though. It just so happens that I get rejected (for no real reason... fucking HR people).

As time had passed, I came to many realizations in life, things that I couldn't have realized while preoccupied with studies or work. I live alone in the house that I have known since I was a child. The combined sentiments toward this house and a certain feeling of responsibility for myself had changed me.

I still have to receive living allowance from my parents but apart from that, this feeling alone gives me a sense of independence. Washing my plates and paying my bills are a given but where have you seen a guy in his early twenties tending to his plants, pulling the weeds and cutting the hedges of his garden, comparing the quality of cleaning liquids in the supermarket, or mopping the floor while dancing to gothic metal? The least an average person my age would do is water the plants. Why? They're probably studying for their exams.

Before entering this bum life, I only grab canned food and cup noodles whenever I shop in the supermarket. Now, it's entirely different. While paying my bills in the mall, I came to notice that in my age, I'm already the youngest person in the line. Everyone else is either an adult or a geezer. Also, when walking down the street, I see either adults or househelpers do the gardening. One time, a neighbor even complimented me when I did my own gardening saying "Ang sipag mo ah!". More likely than anything else, she wouldn't be able to express those same sentiments to her own son.

I may be a slob but once I try to clean, I try to make something REAL clean. I even went as far as buying baking soda and a spray bottle to get the stench off my sofa. Once in a while, I also take out my bug spray can for some "roach extermination". Hell, I even discovered my own way of cleaning a rice cooker! Whenever some knowledge eludes my creativity, I simply do some research (hooray Internet) and follow the instructions. I may not clean my room, but I have a passionate drive when it comes to cleaning everything else!

In my opinion, what I learned in this life is something that I can never EVER learn from school or by having someone teach me. Moreover, this is life experience. No one can get experience off a book (unless it's a video game). I don't want to be an adult but I don't want to remain a child either. This life fits me perfectly.

To all who had discriminated me and this kind of lifestyle, fuck you. You're spitting on the best learning experience a human can ever have.

I'll rank the anime I'm still watching according to preference starting with the least to the most liked. It's also worth noting that despite being given a PASS verdict, I've dropped K-On. I just couldn't stand it.

Heroman - I'm not really watching this. I usually download the file, skip a lot to get the gist of the episode, and delete it. I don't even bother seeding. Rating: 0/10

Kaichou wa Maid-sama - Basically, I'm strangling myself in an effort to watch a shoujo anime.  Rating: 1/10

Angel Beats - When I thought that this anime was getting boring, my feelings skyrocketed at episode 4. People who are watching this show would know why. Tachibana Kanade is my favorite female character this season. Rating: 9/10

House of Five Leaves - This anime needs more love. It's completely underrated. Rating: 9.5/10

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou - One word: BADASS. Sai Akuto is my favorite character this season. Rating: 10/10

Listed in the order that I watched them. There are three ratings: PASS, FAIL, and PASS but I'm not watching this.

Heroman - The animation quality is good but the story is very corny. That and I repeatedly complained about how Americanized this anime is. It's weird to have something excessively non-Japanese in a Japanese medium. Can't I just have my Ironman anime? Verdict: FAIL

Angel Beats - As expected of something made by Key, the first episode creates some mystery. The creator said that we should expect the second episode to clarify the weird stuff that needs further explaining. Since Key has a good reputation, I don't expect this to fail. Verdict: PASS

B Gata H Kei - Three words: What. the. fuck. I mean... Seriously... Why did they even pick up this kind of story to be animated? Surely, I've read a manga or two with absurd plots like this and I never expect any of them to become animated. Hello? The girl's dream is to have 100 fuck buddies, for crying out loud. Verdict: FAIL

Kaichou wa Maid-sama - I have read the manga long ago but since I get bored with shoujo easily, I dropped it. Seeing it animated somehow gave me a better impression. But I fear that I still might drop it like I dropped Special A. Verdict: PASS

Arakawa Under the Bridge - The first half was okay. The second half was too weird. Shaft did their signature "effects" - the same effects which made me shake my head at Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Bakemonogatari, and Vampire Bund. So... no... Just no... I tried to be unbiased but I still didn't like it. Verdict: FAIL

Kiss X Sis - Ahh. I'd say that this is less WTF-inducing than B Gata H Kei. Also, it's "milder" than the OVAs. With the introduction of new characters, I'd say that this shows SOME promise. Still not recommended for non-fans of ecchi, though. Verdict: PASS but I'm not watching this

Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan - I watched this and asked myself "Did DEEN make this?". I looked back in the roster and saw that I was right. Art style is reminiscent of Vampire Knight. Doesn't seem to be an anime for me (it's shoujo!) so I'd say it's good, but I'm not watching it. Verdict: PASS but I'm not watching this

K-ON!! - Well, well. Just when I thought that I can't expect anything from KyoAni anymore. I have to admit: the opening song animation is well-made. I just MIGHT be watching this again despite Yui's retardedness. Verdict: PASS

Working!! - (Double exclamations are a trend?) The title isn't misleading at all, since the anime is about Working! It doesn't suck but it doesn't really have a catchy episode. The humor is also ok to me... but nothing to make me keep watching it. No, Jun Fukuyama doesn't count. Verdict: PASS but I'm not watching this

Mayoi Neko Overrun - I might only be watching this because I was kinda saddened when the To Love-ru manga (the one Kentaro Yabuki was working on before this) ended. So despite the lameness of the plot, I'm still reading it. But I doubt I'll continue watching it. Verdict: FAIL

Giant Killing - I dunno. I'm really not into sports. I don't like the art either. Though a lot of my friends like this, maybe it's good? Well... not for me though. Verdict: FAIL

Senkou no Night Raid - This is somewhat good. But the episode features excessive Mandarin. It bored me but I can still say that it's good. Just not for me. Verdict: PASS but I'm not watching this

Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou - Story is epic and lulz. Art is okay. I can't seem to say anything bad about this anime. A warning for non-fans of ecchi harem anime, though. Verdict: PASS

House of Five Leaves - Boring atmosphere. Boring-looking drawings. Seemingly boring story but somehow I like it. Apparently, the only thing that will stop me from watching this show is the lack of subs. Verdict: PASS

Generally, this season sucks, save for a few good ones. But even the good ones seem to be unremarkable. I'm wishing for a better Summer 2010, though.
